The Mount Tom Amateur Repeater Association, Inc., (MTARA) chartered in 1978, is a not-for-profit corporation, formed to encourage and foster interest in amateur radio communications and to provide public service.

Its membership is comprised of approximately 140 operators of all license levels, who participate in regular nets, public service events, emergency communications and general amateur radio activities.

MTARA maintains both UHF and VHF repeaters, which are for the use and enjoyment of all licensed amateur radio operators. In the event that normal communications are disrupted by natural or man made causes, MTARA repeaters are available to provide emergency communications.

The MTARA radio repeater system is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and subject to FCC rules and guidelines.
